Wanda Rae Jewell , also Wanda Oliver , (born June 19, 1954 in Havre ) is a former American sports shooter .
successes
Wanda Jewell took part in two Olympic Games . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , she scored 578 points and finished second with Ulrike Holmer . In the jump-off, Holmer prevailed with 41 to 39 points, so that Jewell received the bronze medal. In 1988 she missed the final in Seoul with 579 points in 13th place.
She won five titles at world championships in Seoul in 1978: she was victorious in the individual with the air rifle and in the three-position fight with the small-bore rifle, with the team she secured the titles in these two disciplines as well as in the prone position with the small-bore rifle. In the following year she defended the title with the air rifle team and won silver in the individual. In the team competition with the air rifle, she was second in Caracas in 1982 , while she won bronze in the three-position battle with the small bore in Suhl in 1986 and silver in Barcelona in 1998 . She was also very successful at the Pan American Games . In 1983 she won gold in a three-position battle with the small-bore rifle in Caracas in the individual and with the team and was also first with the air rifle team. In the individual competition with the air rifle, she took second place. In 1995 she secured another gold medal with the team in the three-position battle in Mar del Plata , in the individual she won silver.
In 1976 Jewell graduated from Eastern Washington University and went directly to active service in the US Army . She eventually retired from the US Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel . She ended her active career in 2000 and was national coach of the US shooting team until 2002. After that she was Director of Operations at the national association until her resignation in 2008 . She is married to Max Oliver.
