Wankaner ( Vankaner ) was a princely state of British India in the north of the Kathiawar peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat . Its capital was the place Wankaner . The Principality was Raj Sahib Sartanji from the Rajputs - Dynasty of Jhala of Dhrangadhra founded 1605th Wankaner was a British protectorate from 1807 to 1947 and in 1935 had an area of 1080 km² and 44,000 inhabitants.
On August 15, 1947, Wankaner became a member of the Saurashtra State Union and on February 15, 1948, it joined India. On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and incorporated into the state of Bombay . With the partition of Bombay on May 1, 1960, Wankaner came to Gujarat .
