Waris Shah: Ishq Da Waaris ( Panjabi : ਵਾਰਿਸ ਸ਼ਾਹ: ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਵਾਰਿਸ) is an Indian feature film directed by Manoj Punj from 2006.

When the great mogul Aurangzeb forbade music in his empire, all instruments are burned and musicians are executed. After the musician Makhdoom is executed, his student Waris Shah moves to Malkahans (in today's Pakistani Punjab ) to compose his version of the love legend Heer Ranjha . Impressed by his voice, the village girls Bhaagpari and Saabo fall in love with him, who then become rivals. When Bhaagpari starts an affair with Waris, Saabo discovers it, burns his poems out of jealousy and tells the whole village, whereupon Bhaagpari is forcibly married to Inayat Malik .

Production and publication

The film was produced by Sai Productions and directed by Manoj Punj . Shekar Svdc was responsible for the editing, Mahesh Deshpande for the visual effects .

The film premiered on October 6, 2006 in India and the UK. Golden Palms released the film in the US on DVD.
