Warlord is an American power metal band from Los Angeles that was formed in 1981. The founders include guitarist William "Destroyer" Tsamis and drummer Mark "Thunderchild" Zonder.

history

The band contributed the song Lucifer's Hammer to the Metal Massacre Sampler series in 1983 , followed by the mini-LP Deliver Us in the same year and the album … And the Canons of Destruction Have Begun in 1984 , which provided the soundtrack to a song of the same name the band was filmed music video .

Since no permanently suitable singer and bass player could be found at that time, Tsamis and Zonder separated. Mark Zonder switched to Fates Warning , William Tsamis continued the band under the name Lordian Guard in the 1990s . She released two albums in 1994 and 1996, with Tsami's wife Vidonne Sayre-Riemenschneider taking over the vocal part.

It wasn't until 2002 that the first studio album called Rising Out of the Ashes came out. Not least because of a lot of fan letters, Tsamis and Zonder started looking for a suitable singer and found him in Joacim Cans from Hammerfall . The album processed, however, mainly Lordian Guard song material. The album was followed by appearances at festivals and in smaller clubs. Another album was planned, but initially did not materialize because the new Warlord for Tsamis and Zonder only had project character. Since Zonder's departure in 2005 - he joined Slavior - the band was again on hold.

Six years later "The Holy Empire" was released, again with Mark Zonder and William Tsamis, the singer Rick Anderson and bassist Philip Bynoe brought on board, the reunion was accompanied by a small tour through Europe (with Giles Lavery as singer). In the autumn of 2013, the Cypriot singer Nicholas Leptos joined the band.

meaning

Warlord is considered the most iconic and independent heavy metal band. Although there were no new releases under the band name for almost 20 years, there was always a euphoric fan base. The name also appeared again and again in music magazines such as Rock Hard and various fanzines .

The Swedish band Hammerfall covered the warlord song Child of the Damned on their debut album Glory to the Brave from 1997 and thus helped the band, previously known more underground, to further acquaintance. Hammerfall's name also refers to a Warlord song, Lucifer's Hammer . There it says: "The hammer will fall on you!"
