The Wartberg is a 197 meter high mountain in the southern municipality of Rosdorf .
The Wartberg consists of Gipskeuper and loess . It lines the Leinetal south of Göttingen . The partially forested Rosdorf Wartberg is a recreational area for children and adults due to its geographical proximity to Rosdorf . In addition to walking paths, there is also a barbecue area and a toboggan run. At the western foot of the mountain is the Jewish cemetery of Rosdorf, where there are no more gravestones. In the east of the mountain the allotment garden association Flora e. V., in the southwest below the mountain is the Wartberg roundabout at Kreisstraße 29.
From the southernmost point of the Wartberg, you can see the Leinetal as far as Friedland . Here, some wooden benches also offer views of the area and the Hoher Hagen mountain near Dransfeld . On its northern side is the barbecue area with a view of Göttingen.
The Wartberg got its name from the Rosdorfer Warte , a medieval observation tower (observation tower) on its hilltop, which served to secure the surrounding area of Göttingen. All that remains of this tower is a circular earth wall.
