The Wasken Zarkissyan Republican Stadium ( Armenian : Վազգեն Սարգսյանի անվան Հանրապետական մարզադաշտ) is a football stadium in the Armenian city of Yerevan . The football clubs FC Pyunik Yerevan and FC Ulisses Yerevan play their home games here. The facility offers 14,968 seats and the playing field measures 105 × 68 meters.
history
Construction of the stadium began in 1935 and the stadium was opened a year later. After the Second World War , it was expanded further. The original name was "Dynamo Stadium", after the independence of Armenia it was renamed "Hanrapetakan Stadium" ( German Republican Stadium ). After the death of Wasken Zarkissjan in 1999, the stadium was named in his honor. The first renovations were carried out in 1995 at a cost of US $ 3 million with financial support from UEFA and the renovations were completed in 2000. In 2008 the stadium was expanded with a more modern playing surface and a VIP area in order to meet the UEFA stadium guidelines.
