The castle Kluesserath even Clüsserath called, is a moated castle at the Moselle in the town of Klüsserath in the district of Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The Franks owned a royal crown property in Klüsserath , from which the Klüsserath moated castle developed in the 12th and 13th centuries as the seat of the barons of Kesselstatt .

The castle complex shows a three-storey late Gothic rectangular building made of exposed rubble stones with a cross-vaulted cellar from the 7th century. The castle is privately owned and houses a winery with an ostrich farm , in whose cellar wine tastings can be organized on request. Even Emperor Maximilian stopped by the castle in 1512 on his way to the Reichstag in Trier. A three-arched moat bridge leads into the castle.

In front of the actual castle, the area of the former castle courtyard with its two entrances to the main road is still clearly visible today. The kitchens, stables, barns, workshops and living quarters of the servants were located here. It is possible that the entire area was additionally protected by an enclosing wall. In the castle, which belonged to the archbishops of Trier from the 14th century and was the secular center of the medieval village, lived the lords of Klüsserath, who exercised jurisdiction over the villagers on behalf of the clergy.
