The moated castle Ruppendorf is the ruin of a moated castle in the southern part of Ruppendorf (Beerwalder Straße), a district of the municipality of Klingenberg in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district in Saxony .

history

The moated castle was built in the late 12th century at the earliest in connection with the Weißeritzsiedelzug of the burgraves of Dohna and was first mentioned in 1350 with the place Ruppendorf, when Heinrich von Reichstaedt (Heinricus de Richenstadt), feudal man of the margraves of Meissen , sat at the castle.

After 1402 the end of the dohna feud the dohna castle had fallen and the Castle County was dissolved, the castle Ruppendorf lost its importance as a border fortification and was only used more as a fortified farm "curia".

From the middle of the 15th century the castle was owned by the Knights von Theler and in 1490 passed to the ducal councilor Siegfried von Maltitz. In 1869 the castle was partially destroyed, the outworks burned down to the foundation walls and the stones were used to rebuild agricultural buildings. In 1999 the municipality of Höckendorf restored parts of the ruins.

description

The castle ruins still show part of the wall and the round 12 meter high keep with a high entrance , a diameter of 6.20 meters and a wall thickness of 1.50 meters. Later, a hole was broken in the tower wall at ground level, the surrounding moat was filled and a park was created.
