The hydropower plant La Grande-4 ( French: Centrale La Grande-4 or LG-4) is a storage power plant in the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the Jamésie region on the La Grande Rivière river .
The power plant is part of the Baie James hydropower project , has nine Francis turbines and is fed by the Réservoir La Grande 4 . The installed capacity of the generators is 2,779 MW , the drop height 116.7 meters. The power station is operated by Société d'énergie de la Baie James , a subsidiary of the state-owned energy utility Hydro-Québec . The power plant is underground and is located in a 246 m long, 31.6 m wide and 47 m high cavern . Construction work began in 1978, and commissioning took place in stages between 1984 and 1986.
A five-kilometer access road, which is not accessible to private vehicles, leads south to the Route Transtaïga . Another five kilometers away is the Keyano settlement, which was built in 1978 for construction workers and is now used by operations and maintenance workers.
