The hydroelectric power plant Laforge-2 ( French Centrale Laforge-2 ) is a run-of-river power plant in the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the Jamésie region on the Rivière Laforge , a tributary of La Grande Rivière .
The power plant is part of the Baie James hydropower project and has two Francis turbines . The installed power of the generators is 319 MW , the drop height is 27.4 meters. The power station is operated by Société d'énergie de la Baie James , a subsidiary of the state-owned energy utility Hydro-Québec . Although the power plant is fed by the Laforge-2 reservoir, it is technically not considered a storage power plant, as the reservoir is initially barely wider than the dam and only widens significantly about 25 kilometers to the east; in addition, the fluctuation in the water level is negligible.
Construction work on the Laforge-2 power plant began in 1993 and commissioned in 1996. A seven-kilometer access road, which is not accessible to private vehicles, leads south to the Route Transtaïga road .
