Neugattersleben watermill
The Neugattersleben watermill is a cultural monument in Neugattersleben , Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the historical ensemble around Neugattersleben Castle .
history
The construction of the watermill on the Bode was commissioned by Ludolf von Alvensleben in 1589 . The mill was equipped with six grinding courses and originally two, later three water wheels . It served as a flour mill , at times also as an oil mill .
In 1864 Werner-Alvo von Alvensleben built a new house on the mill property for the mill leaseholder Franz Conrad. This and the subsequent tenant, his son, kept the mill up to date through restoration and modernization.
A turbine house, equipped with a double-ring turbine, was added in 1896. This water turbine was replaced in 1922 by a modern Francis turbine , which generated a maximum of 75 kW direct current for the estate and Neugattersleben Castle, in some cases also for feeding into the local network .
At the beginning of the 1930s, the place was connected to the AC overland network, so that the hydropower plant became superfluous. The mill construction was used for other purposes until the mid-1960s, most recently as a feed store for the local LPG . After the mill was closed, the dam system , the mill ditch and the operating ditch , which had been intact until then, fell into disrepair . Numerous bodies of water in the castle and meadow landscape park were now used for agricultural irrigation.
Today the mill is a technical monument , since about the year 2000 efforts have been made to restore the dilapidated mill as a museum; the house was used as a kindergarten for a few years from 1990/91 .
