The water waves life fountain , also known as lapis lazuli lazurite wave water sculpture , lapis lazuli fountain , Kreisky fountain or blue symbol , is a fountain in the 1st district of Vienna, Inner City .

history

The water wave life-fountain was created by sculptor Hans Muhr from the largest ever found and the well-known Chilean degraded Andean lapis lazuli - monoliths made. This fountain was exhibited for the first time in the Austria Pavilion at the World Exhibition in Lisbon in 1998.

At the municipal council meeting on November 24, 1999, both the purchase of the sculpture known as the “Blue Sign” (10 million schillings) and a further 2 million schillings for the construction work in Bruno-Kreisky-Gasse, which were necessary for the installation, were next approved by the Federal Chancellery . Two thirds of the total costs were borne by private sponsors and another third by the City of Vienna .

The unveiling of the water wave life fountain on November 23, 2000 was carried out by Helmut Zilk and Peter Marboe .

description

The fountain stands in Bruno-Kreisky-Gasse near Ballhausplatz on a three-tiered base. The surface of the blue stone is reminiscent of a wall made of natural stones with rounded corners.

Bronze plaques

One of the bronze plaques embedded in the ground indicates that this lapis lazuli lazurite boulder with a gross weight of 18.3 tons was quarried in 1993 by Austrian quarry specialists at an altitude of 3700 meters in Chile.

The second bronze plaque reminds us that the water wave life fountain was bought by Bank Austria , Mediaprint and the City of Vienna and handed over to the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna .
