history

At the end of the 19th century there were 24 road and river construction offices in the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1908 an additional 21 so-called cultural building offices were set up, which were subordinate to the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior . In the course of a standardization of the administration in Germany from 1939, the cultural building authorities in Bavaria were renamed to water management authorities on June 11, 1941 . In 1953 the river engineering authorities were integrated as part of an administrative reform, and the task of sewage disposal also fell to the water management authority. In the course of the development of environmental protection , further tasks were added towards the end of the 20th century.

Today's tasks

The Munich Water Management Office now operates 140 groundwater measuring points and 40 measuring points on rivers in order to document the water level , sometimes also the temperature and other qualitative characteristics such as oxygen content and turbidity of the water. The Munich Water Management Office is part of the division of the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection ; the higher technical authority is the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .
