Vasily Andreevich Zolotaryov

Wassili Andrejewitsch Solotarev ( Russian Василий Андреевич Золотарёв , scientific transliteration Vasilij Andreevič Zolotarëv , also Zolotaryov ; * February 24th July / 7th March  1872 Greg. In Taganrog ; † May 25, 1964 in Moscow ) was a Russian composer

Solotarjow studied in Saint Petersburg with Mili Balakirew , Nikolai Rimski-Korsakow and Anatoly Lyadow . He taught in Saint Petersburg, Rostov, Moscow, Krasnodar, Odessa, Kiev, Sverdlovsk and Minsk. His students included u. a. Anatol Bahatyrou and Leonid Polowinkin . His most famous student, whom he taught in Minsk from 1939 to 1941, was Mieczysław Weinberg .

From 1941 he lived in Moscow. In addition to several operas, he composed a ballet, seven symphonies (1902–1962), three orchestral suites, a cello concerto, six string quartets and a string quintet with 2 cellos.

  1. The majority of the sources (MGG, New Grove, LCCN, GSE and others) mention March 7th, 1872 (Gregorian), occasionally the year 1873 is also found.
