Leonid Alexejewitsch Polowinkin
Leonid Alexeyevich Polowinkin ( Russian Леонид Алексеевич Половинкин ; born August 1 . Jul / 13. August 1894 greg. In Kurgan , † 8. February 1949 in Moscow ) was a Soviet composer.
Life
Polowinkin had piano, violin, composition and conducting lessons in his hometown, studied law in Moscow and was a student of Georgi Katuar , Sergei Wassilenko , Nikolai Mjaskowski , Nikolai Malko and Reinhold Glière from 1917 to 1924 .
From 1924 he was involved in the establishment of the Marmontov Studio for Monumental Opera in Leningrad . At the same time he worked as musical director at the Aleksandrinski Theater . From 1926 to his death he was the musical director of the Central Children's Music Theater in Moscow and the life partner of its director Natalia Saz . He was also a member and secretary of the Association for Contemporary Music (ASM).
Polowinkin's compositions were initially influenced by Alexander Scriabin . Later his style became more avant-garde. He composed nine symphonies, a piano concerto, and chamber music works, including four string quartets, five piano sonatas, piano pieces and songs. Collective compositions were created with Alexander Mossolow , Anatoli Alexandrow , Dmitri Shostakovich and Nikolai Roslawetz .
After his death, Polowinkin was largely forgotten. His works have only recently been rediscovered. The pianist Anait Karpova recorded a selection of his piano compositions on CD.
