The Waterworks River is a watercourse in the London Borough of Newham ; it is part of the Bow Back Rivers and flows into the Bow Creek , part of the River Lea .
The watercourse was created in 1743 for the Startford Waterworks (later merged into the East London Waterworks Company ) to obtain water for a reservoir at the Saynes Mill in Stratford . The watercourse was widened to 30.5 m in the 1930s to reduce the risk of flooding in Stratford. The watercourse is limited by concrete slabs.
The watercourse passes the London Aquatics Center on one side and the Olympic Stadium on the other.
