Weberbauerocereus johnsonii is a species of plant from the genus Weberbauerocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the discoverer, the Californian gardener Harry Johnson (1894–1987).
description
Weberbauerocereus johnsonii grows shrubby to tree-shaped up to 6 meters high. The shoots , densely wrapped in golden yellow thorns , with a diameter of 7 to 9 centimeters, branch from a height of 1.5 meters. They have 30 to 35 blunt ribs that are up to 5 millimeters high and slightly tuberous. The areoles on it are brown. From them arise fine, golden-yellow and not very piercing thorns , which differ only with difficulty in central and radial thorns. The 10 to 12 central spines are strong, flexible and 1 centimeter long. The up to 20 (and more) radial spines are up to 1.5 centimeters long. In the flowering area, the areoles are larger and covered with bristles up to 6 centimeters long.
The somewhat zygomorphic, white or light pink-white flowers are up to 11 centimeters long. Your flower tube is covered with brownish black wool and strong, reddish brown hair . The spherical fruits are green and reach a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. They are covered with gray and brown hair.
Distribution and systematics
Weberbauer Ocereus johnsonii is common in the Peruvian region of Cajamarca . It was first described in 1962 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Haageocereus johnsonii (F.Ritter) PVHeath .
