Liam Garvey (born January 2, 1973 in Chicago Heights , Illinois ) is an American ice hockey player who played in the German Ice Hockey League from 1990 to 2004 for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers , Kölner Haie and Mosquitos Essen Has.

Career

Liam Garvey began his career as a hockey player with the Omaha Lancers, for which he was active in the junior league United States Hockey League in the 1990/91 season . He then studied for four years at Michigan Tech and played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1995/96 season, the defender made his professional ice hockey debut for the San Antonio Iguanas from the Central Hockey League . He then began the following season with the Peoria Rivermen in the East Coast Hockey League and finished it with the Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League . Also in the 1997/98 season he stayed in the IHL and stood in this for the Rafales de Québec .

In the summer of 1998 Garvey went to Europe for the first time, where he was under contract in the German Ice Hockey League for the next four years - initially two years with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and then for one season each with the Kölner Haien and the Moskitos Essen . During the 2002/03 season, the American changed clubs several times. First he ran for the EHC Basel in the Swiss National League B , then for the Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien and finally the Elmira Jackals in the United Hockey League . For the 2003/04 season , the left shooter returned to his ex-club Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the DEL. For the Franconians he scored two goals in 43 games and made 13 assists this season. He then ended his career at the age of 31.
