Weedeater is an American stoner, doom and sludge band from Wilmington , North Carolina that was formed in 1997.
history
The band was formed in 1997 by bassist and singer Dave "Dixie" Collins and guitarist Keith Kirkum after their previous band Buzzov • en broke up. In 2001 the debut album … and Justice for Y'all followed via Berserker Records , which in 2002 was followed by the second album Sixteen Tons . Both albums were produced by Billy Anderson . In the following years concerts with Corrosion of Conformity and Alabama Thunderpussy followed. Collins also played briefly with Bongzilla and Sourvein . In 2007 the third album God Luck and Good Speed was released . After the album Jason ... the Dragon was released in 2011 , appearances in the USA and Europe followed . The album was supposed to be released in 2010, but Collins injured himself while using his shotgun , causing him to lose a toe.

According to Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic, the band on Sixteen Tons play a classic mix of stoner rock, doom metal and sludge. Grayson Currin from pitchfork.com assigned God Luck and Good Speed to Stoner Rock, with the group sounding more pragmatic than Sleep and more "hammering" than Bongzilla. According to Noel Gardner from drownedinsound.com, the band on Jason… the Dragon play classic sludge, comparable to the works of groups like EyeHateGod , Grief and Iron Monkey .
