history

The starting point of the Defense Science Institute for Materials and Operating Materials was an X-ray inspection system for bridge construction equipment of the armed forces of the United States that was built on the Erding Air Base after the end of the Second World War . On October 29, 1959, this facility was taken over by the Federal Armed Forces with appropriate extensions as the Bundeswehr material testing center ( MatPrfSt ). After the affiliation of further institutions in the following years, the name was changed to the Defense Science Institute for Material Investigations ( WIM or WehrwissIMatU ) on March 11, 1982 and after the merger with the "Federal Institute for Chemical-Technical Investigations" (BICT) in Swisttal from April 1, 1997 in the Defense Science Institute for Materials , Explosives and Operating Materials ( WIWEB ). After the divisions of the former BICT were outsourced to the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 91 in Meppen on April 1, 2009, the institute received its current name.
