Working group of departmental research institutions

The Berlin Working Group of Departmental Research Institutions is an association of federal institutions with research tasks in Germany that was founded on February 9, 2005 .

These are each assigned to a federal ministry and are usually referred to as federal research institutes , federal agencies , federal institutes or federal offices . Special tasks of these institutions, in addition to the actual research , are, on the one hand, advising ministries and other political bodies on decisions and, on the other hand, services in the areas of testing, approval, regulation and standardization as well as monitoring.

According to the company, the aim is to represent the interests of the departmental research institutions vis-à-vis politics, the public and other research organizations. In addition , an increased quality assurance of scientific work through external evaluations is aimed for , especially in cooperation with the Science Council . The first individual statements of the Science Council on seven departmental research institutions were published in May 2006.

The governing body is a board of directors consisting of five scientists from participating research institutions.
