The white Mormon tulip ( Calochortus albus ) is a species of the genus Mormon tulips ( Calochortus ) in the lily family (Liliaceae).
features
The white Mormon tulip is an autumn to spring green, perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 80 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The leaves are linear and 30 to 70 centimeters long; the basal leaves are preserved at flowering time.
The hermaphroditic, radial symmetry , threefold flower is nodding, closed. The two by three bracts are colored white to deep pink. The outer bracts are 10 to 15 millimeters long and lie on the inner ones. The inner bracts are elliptical and 10 to 25 millimeters long.
The flowering period extends from June to August.
Occurrence
The white Mormon tulip occurs in California in shady places in open woodland and bushes at altitudes from 0 to 2000 meters.
