history

Weißthal is the youngest district of Mittweida in terms of origin. It was only created in the 19th century. In 1854 there was a spinning mill called "Weißthal" on the Zschopau, the name of which it owes to its founder, Johann Gotthelf Christian Weiß. In 1875 the company was converted into the “Weißthaler Aktien - Spinnerei” stock corporation. In the same year, the Weißthal settlement with 163 inhabitants that grew up around the spinning mill came under the administration of Kockisch in the newly established Rochlitz administration . After 1886 the company was expanded with its own weaving mill with 400, later with 670 looms in Bahnhofsstraße in Mittweida. On August 1, 1923, Kockisch and Weißthal were incorporated into Mittweida.

After the Second World War , the Weissthaler spinning mill was transferred to public ownership in 1946 , and later it was assigned to VEB cotton spinning mill as Plant II . With the political change in 1990 the factory was closed. Most of the spinning mill has since been demolished.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Kockisch and Weißthal came with Mittweida in 1952 to the Hainichen district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which came to the newly formed Mittweida district during the administrative reform that took place in 1994 . Since 2008, the city of Mittweida and its districts have been part of the newly formed Central Saxony district .

In 2020 there were 47 inhabitants in Weißthal.

religion

In terms of church, Weißthal belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Mittweida as part of Kockisch.

Economy and Transport

Weißthal owes its foundation to industrialization in the 19th century. The “Weißthal” factory estate developed around the spinning mill that existed in 1854. The cotton mill was closed in 1990.

In 1861, at the instigation of the Ringethal manor owner, a bridge was built over the Zschopau from Ringethal to Weißthal. It served the better connection of the so-called "water villages" with Mittweida. Until the bridge was built, farmers and traders had to take long and arduous journeys through the Zschopau ford or over the wooden bridge in Neudörfchen to get to Mittweida. The bridge was renewed around the year 2000.
