history
Around 1349/1350 the forest hoof village Thalheim was first mentioned in a document as "Talheim". In 1445/47 a distinction is made between a “Neder Talheim” and an “Obir Talheim”. The development of the villages was closely linked to agriculture. In both places there were farms, three mills, a blacksmith's shop, a saddler, two inns and a restaurant.
Up to the middle of the 19th century, both places belonged to different manors. While Nieder-Thalheim belonged to the council of Rochlitz around 1548 and to the Zetteritz manor around 1764 , Ober-Thalheim, like the neighboring Frankenau, was subordinate to the Neusorge manor . Due to this different manorial rule, there was also a different administrative affiliation. Around 1548 both places belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Rochlitz . After the reign of Neusorge was annexed to the Augustusburg office in 1610 , Ober-Thalheim and Frankenau belonged to this as exclaves . In 1836 they came to the Office of Frankenberg-Sachsenburg . Nieder-Thalheim, however, remained with the Rochlitz office until the middle of the 19th century.
The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . Nieder- and Ober-Thalheim came under the administration of the Mittweida court office in 1856 . In 1875, the two places were placed under the administration of the Rochlitz District Authority. On October 1, 1926, the places Ober- and Niederthalheim merged to form the municipality of Thalheim. Through the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Thalheim came to the Rochlitz district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ).
On January 1, 1974, it was incorporated into Frankenau . In 1990 Thalheim came to the Saxon district of Rochlitz as a district of the Frankenau community , which was merged into the Mittweida district in 1994 . Due to the incorporation of Frankenau into the city of Mittweida , Thalheim has been a district of Mittweida since January 1st, 1996. Since then the place has had its own local council, Frankenau. Since 2008, the city of Mittweida and its districts have been part of the newly formed Central Saxony district .
