history

The Waldhufendorf Rößgen was mentioned around 1300 as "Roschin". Later place names are "Rosgen" (1303), "Rozsichen, Rozchen" (1378), "Röschen" (1551) and "Rößgen" (1875).

In administrative terms, Rößgen belonged to the "castrum Rochlitz" as early as 1378, and around 1606 to the Rochlitz office . At that time, the council of Mittweida was the landlord of the place. In 1764, Rößgen and Kockisch became official villages of the Hereditary Office of Meißen as exclaves . In 1832 both places were subordinated to the Office of Frankenberg-Sachsenburg . The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Rößgen came under the administration of the Mittweida court office in 1856 . In 1875 the place was subordinated to the administration of the administrative authority Rochlitz . On November 1, 1900, Rößgen was the first place to be incorporated into the city of Mittweida.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Rößgen and Mittweida came to the Hainichen district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Hainichen from 1990 and was newly formed during the administrative reform that took place in 1994 Mittweida district rose. Since 2008, the city of Mittweida and its districts have been part of the newly formed Central Saxony district .

Economy and Transport

Rößgen was an agricultural farming village until the beginning of the 20th century. In the course of industrialization after 1870, the grinding mill at Gottesaubach developed into a leather factory. On the steep slope of the Gottsaubach, the "Waldheimer Straße" was built in the second half of the 19th century with apartments for workers from the Weißthal spinning mill.

As a result, Rößgen experienced enormous population growth. After the incorporation to Mittweida, the name "Rößgen" remained despite the introduction of street names in the vernacular. The local area, which now merges seamlessly into the neighboring city of Mittweida to the south, is a popular residential area, especially the “Lauenhainer Straße”, the “Auenblicksiedlung” and the “Ringethaler Weg”.

There is a connection to the Riesa – Chemnitz railway in Mittweida.

Culture

education

Rößgen received its own school in 1878, which was only used until it was incorporated into Mittweida in 1900.

religion

Ecclesiastically Rößgen belonged to Mittweida as early as 1555. Today the Protestant church members belong to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Mittweida.
