Weidenbach is a hamlet-like district of Mackenrode in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

location

The district Weidenbach is located south of Mackenrode on the state road 1004 in a small side valley of the Beek about 10 kilometers southwest of Heiligenstadt . Surrounded by the northern foothills of the Gobert with the Dieberg (500 m) in the south, the Frauenberg (411 m) in the east and the Brandberg (395 m) in the west, the location is on the border with Hesse .

history

Weidenbach was first mentioned on December 26, 1284. Until 1821 the place belonged to the Hessian office Allendorf . After the Second World War , the former Hessian village of Weidenbach was added to the Soviet occupation zone by the Wanfried Agreement and thus became part of the GDR founded in 1949 . Due to its location near the inner-German border , the place was particularly disadvantaged during the GDR era. In 1974 Weidenbach was incorporated into Mackenrode. Since the Wanfried Agreement was not reversed, Weidenbach is now part of the state of Thuringia with its affiliation to Mackenrode.
