Weigsdorf-Köblitz ( Upper Sorbian Wuhančicy-Koblica ) is a district of the municipality of Cunewalde in the district of Bautzen .

geography

The place is located in the Upper Lusatia south of Bautzen on the federal highway 96 , which crosses the western part of the village. Weigsdorf-Köblitz is located at the western entrance of the Cunewalder valley between Halbendorf in the west and Cunewalde in the east. The Cunewald water flows along the northern edge of the village towards the Spree . In the district of Weigsdorf there is the Matschenberg , also known as Matschen , and the Weigsdorfer Berg.

history

Weigsdorf and Köblitz were united in 1930 and incorporated into Cunewalde as a district in 1999.

In 1939 the community had 875 inhabitants, in 1946 - after the immigration of displaced persons from the former eastern areas - there were already 1095. During the GDR era, the number of inhabitants almost doubled in 1990 due to industrial development and the construction of a prefabricated residential area (2127 inhabitants).

In Weigsdorf-Köblitz, state road 115 branches off from federal road 96 (Bautzen– Zittau ) via Cunewalde to Löbau . From 1890 to 1998 the community also had a stop on the Großpostwitz – Löbau railway line (until 1928 only to Obercunewalde), where passenger trains stopped on the Bautzen – Löbau line until 1997.
