The vineyard is an elevation of 88 meters at its highest point in the town of Zossen in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg .

location

The elevation is located north of the Glienick district and thus in the north-western part of the urban area. It can be reached from the south via a circular hiking trail that leads in a north-easterly direction along Zossener Strasse (Landstrasse 79). Further access is possible via agricultural paths from the north-west.

Origin and use

The elevation was formed as a terminal moraine during the last Ice Age . In the 15th century, wine was already being cultivated on its slopes, giving it its name. Covering an area of up to 12.5 morning were vines cultivated. This made it the largest vineyard in the Zossen domain. In 1929, until the Second World War , workers began mining gravel on the mountain . Until the middle of the 19th century, viticulture was stopped due to a lack of profitability. However, there were still a few vines on the southern slope until the 1980s . In 1956 gravel mining was resumed. In the 21st century, the top is overgrown with a mixed forest. The digital terrain model shows the extent of the gravel extraction very clearly.
