The Carlson Inlet is a 160 km long and 40 km wide bay at the Zumberge Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It is located in the southwestern part of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf between the Fletcher Ice Rise and the Fowler Ice Rise .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the bay in 1979 after Lieutenant Ronald F. Among them was a flight from McMurdo Station over the Ellsworth Mountains on December 14, 1961, during which the bay was photographed and sketched.
