The Weinbrunnen (also market fountain ) is a fountain in Königswinter , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which was built in its current form in 1938. It is located on the market square on the Drachenfelsstrasse leading down from the main road to the banks of the Rhine in front of the city hall . The fountain stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

A first wine fountain was created from cement and paper mache on the occasion of the first winegrowers festival in Königswinter on October 7, 1933 . In 1936 the city of Königswinter decided to replace it with a stone fountain. This was done in 1938 by a stonemason based on a design by the local sculptor and architect Franz Josef Krings . The new wine fountain was the last structure in Königswinter to be built from latite from the Wolkenburg . In 2001 the fountain was completely restored. The wine fountain is put into operation every year on the occasion of the four-day vintner festival held on the market square on the first weekend in October.

The fountain was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter on March 18, 1998.
