Emrich-Schönleber winery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Emrich-Schönleber winery in Monzingen is a winery in the Nahe wine-growing region in Germany . The owners are Werner and Frank Schönleber, who together also act as cellar masters. 80% Riesling , 9 % Pinot Gris and 6% Pinot Blanc are grown on 17 hectares of vineyards . Around 130,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.

history

The Emrich family has been growing wine in the Nahe valley since the middle of the 18th century . Wilhelm Schönleber, the father of the current owner, married into the winery. At the end of the 1960s, Werner Schönleber took over the business and started with just two hectares of vineyards, first producing his dry Rieslings, then his Burgundy wines and finally the ice wines. He kept buying in the best parts of the district, so that the estate now (as of 2011) has 17 hectares of vineyards. In 2007, 0.64 hectares were added: by far the steepest part of the Halenberg, which was once rated as very good and valuable, but lay fallow for over 30 years because the work on the extremely steep slope was too difficult (→ steep-slope viticulture ).

The VDP-classified locations of the winery are Monzinger Frühlingsplätze and Monzinger Halenberg .
