Ernst Triebaumer winery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ernst Triebaumer winery in Rust is an Austrian winery in the Neusiedlersee-Hügelland wine-growing region in Burgenland .

history

Ernst Triebaumer, nicknamed "ET", made a decisive contribution to the success story of Austrian red wine. His Blaufränkisch 1986 from the Mariental location is legendary. The potential of this wine is still rated as very high even after decades of storage.

Meanwhile, Ernst Triebaumer runs the winery, according to Hugh Johnson one of “the best red wine companies in Austria”, together with his sons Herbert and Gerhard. The winery is a member of the Renowned Wineries Burgenland (RWB) and has won the Falstaff Red Wine Prize several times .

Locations, varieties

The vineyard area is 20 hectares (as of 2018), of which 75 percent are planted with red grape varieties, mainly Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon . The best-known wines are next to the Blaufränkisch Mariental a Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot - Cuvée , Blaufränkisch Oberer Wald and Bluefrankish Gmärk . Viktor Siegl , Head of Tasting of the Austrian Vinaria Wine Guide, counts not only the legendary Blaufränkisch Mariental but also Triebaumer's Blaufränkisch from the Upper Forest to be among the best wines in Austria. With regard to the 2009 vintage, Siegl states that "the extremely deep and finesse-rich Upper Forest this time comes dangerously close to the basically unbeatable Mariental."

Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are also important . The vineyards for white and sweet wines such as Ruster Ausbruch (the latter make up around five percent of the total vineyard area) are located on the shores of Lake Neusiedl and consist of crystalline soils (slate, gneiss gravel and quartz) with layers of clay. The slightly higher red wine vineyards with a beautiful view of Lake Neusiedl have shell and coral calcareous deposits.
