history

The reputation of the winery was established by Johann Reinisch (* March 21, 1952, † May 28, 2009). Due to the sudden death of his father in 1972, at the age of 20, he had to take over the then 6.5 hectare farm. With the aim of promoting the wine industry, the young winemaker also ran cattle and founded an elderberry plantation together with Josef Holler in Tattendorf. In 1977 the vineyard area was already 10 hectares, which is why Johann Reinisch was able to stop livestock farming and concentrate entirely on viticulture. In 1984 he had already increased the area under vines to 18 hectares. In the years before his tragic accident, he devoted himself to a new favorite project in Gumpoldskirchen, where he had acquired several hectares of vineyards.

On May 28, 2009, Johann Reinisch, who is remembered as a pioneer of Austrian quality viticulture, had a fatal accident in a tractor accident in the steep terrain of the Gumpoldskirchner Riede Satzing. His sons Hannes, Christian and Michael Reinisch continue the business.

The property on the outskirts of Tattendorf, described by the German wine journalist Manfred Lüer as "a mixture between Californian vineyard architecture and a Spanish hacienda", was completed in 1995. There is a vaulted cellar that is well worth seeing. The wine tavern, which is open periodically, also offers warm meals in addition to the wine selection.

The winery is a member of the Thermenwinzer association and is considered a leading company in the Thermenregion wine-growing region.

Vineyards, grape varieties, range

The vineyard area is 40 hectares (as of 2011), 66 percent of which are planted with red grape varieties , mainly St. Laurent , Zweigelt , Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Pinot Noir . White grape varieties are Zierfandler and Rotgipfler (on the vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen ) and Chardonnay . The extensive range also includes old wines, and a number of wines are also available in 0.375 liter small bottles. The current wines can be tasted in the in-house shop and in the periodically open Heuriger.

Premium wines and rarities

After the winery had achieved a number of successes with wines of the St. Laurent and Pinot Noir varieties, Johann Reinisch decided in 1997 to produce two top-quality wines from the good location "Holzspur": St. Laurent Grande Reserve Holzspur and Pinot Noir Grande Reserve wood trace . The name derives from the fact that in the past, at certain times of the year, the wooden wagon wheels left a clear mark in the soil interspersed with clay. The two top wines from the Holzspur vineyard are considered to be outstanding in the Johanneshof Reinisch range. In the red wine segment, the Pinot Noir Grillenhügel, St. Laurent Frauenfeld and Merlot Dornfeld are also among the premium wines. In the white wine segment, Johanneshof Reinisch has made a name for itself in particular with the powerful, mineral Chardonnay Lores. The winery also shows a certain commitment to the two "Südbahns" Rotgipfler and Zierfandler. A dry sparkling wine is made from the Pinot Noir variety.
