The wine-growing on the grounds of the estate has been documented since the 1302nd In a letter of inheritance from the Benedictine Abbey Michaelbeuern from 1715, three vineyards are mentioned that are still owned by the estate today. Franz Prager was one of the pioneers of Wachau viticulture after the Second World War and, alongside Josef Jamek, was a pioneer for top- quality dry white wine in the Wachau. In 1983, Prager was one of the initiators of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association and its chairman until 1988.

The winery is managed by his son-in-law Toni Bodenstein, succeeding Franz Prager. The vineyard area is 17 hectares (as of 2011), it is planted exclusively with white grape varieties , mainly Grüner Veltliner (40 percent) and Riesling (60 percent). The best-known wines are the Grüner Veltliner Growth Bodenstein and from the Achleiten site and the Riesling growth Bodenstein and from the Klaus site .

Bodenstein vinifies distinctive wines. Innovation and tradition are equally among the strengths of the family business. The winery particularly focuses on the Riesling variety.
