from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zur Schwane winery is a multiple award-winning winery in the Franconian wine-growing region . The estate is located on the outskirts of the Lower Franconian town of Volkach . In addition to the winery, an inn is operated in historical rooms in the middle of Volkach's old town .

history

The Gasthaus Zur Schwane was mentioned as early as 1404, when it was run by the Schwan family, which gave it its name. In 1733 the town of Volkach gave the house the right to brew its own beer ; this privilege had previously been withheld for centuries. In 1934, Michael Stephan, the landlord, was a trained master brewer . After her husband's death, Agnes Stephan ran the inn herself for some time before she sold it in 1935.

The new owners were Josef Maria Pfaff II and his wife Maria. Pfaff was a winegrower and began growing wine for the first time under the name “Zur Schwane”. The winery came into the hands of Petra and Michael Pfaff as early as 1937. In 1993 the estate received an award and was henceforth part of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries . In 1997 Eva Pfaff-Düker and Ralph Düker followed as the new owners of the winery.

Wines and brandies

Initially, the vineyards were only on the Volkacher councilor , which was arranged around the wine town. In later years, properties were also acquired in the traditional top wine location Escherndorfer Lump . Today the winery covers an area of 12 hectares. Different types of wine are grown. The range particularly includes Silvaner (50%), Riesling (25%), white and Pinot Noir . In the past, Müller-Thurgau was also increasingly grown .

A specialty of the winery is the fruit distillery . The estate was a founding member of the Rosenhut-Vereinigung Fränkischer Edelbrenner e. V. The fruits for the brandies are grown on orchards in the vicinity of Volkach. The winery Zur Schwane builds plums , yellow plums , quince and Williams-Christ pears , which are processed into different fires.
