The Rainer Sauer winery is a winery in the Franconian wine-growing region . The estate is located in the Volkach district of Escherndorf in the Kitzingen district .

history

Rainer Sauer has been cultivating his vineyards since 1979. Today (as of 2016) the area of ​​the vines is around 12.5 hectares. Sauer is limited to cultivation in the traditional top location Escherndorfer Lump . His son Daniel Sauer was named DLG Young Winemaker of the Year in 2011 . In 2015 the winery was rebuilt.

Wines and sites

Today, the vineyards of the winery are mainly occupied by Silvaner vines (61%). In addition, Müller-Thurgau (20%), Riesling (9%) and Kerner (4%) are grown. The range of wines is complemented by some red varieties. The large concrete eggs that were borrowed from the Austrian Bernhard Ott winery are a specialty. In them the variety ripens from ovo (from the egg).

The winery limits its acreage to the classic top location Escherndorfer Lump . Sauer's wines are grown there on Muschelkalk and Lettenkeup soils .
