The wine tower Open Air is an outdoor - Music Festival in northern Bavaria Bad Windsheim . It has taken place annually since 1977 on a hill plateau in the Steigerwald Nature Park . It is organized and hosted on a voluntary basis by the Youth and Culture Association

The name is derived from the wine tower , a former watchtower protected as a monument no. D-5-75-112-232, which is located at an altitude of 368  m above sea level. NHN is the landmark next to the festival site.

The festival takes place in early August and lasts three days. Around 2500 guests visit the festival every day, and designated camping areas are made available to them. Around one hundred volunteers were on duty at the 2008 festival.

Musically, there is a mix of established bands from the rock and pop scene as well as local groups. In addition to the main stage, there is the small tower stage, on which entertainers or groups of children perform, among other things.

The bands that have played and headlined the Weinturm Open Air in recent years include Tito & Tarantula , Sportfreunde Stiller , Die Sterne , Die Happy , Panteón Rococó , Subway to Sally and Deichkind .
