action
In a small town in Iceland , a police superintendent on leave suspects that a local man was having an affair with his wife, who was recently killed in a car accident.
reception
Todd McCarthy expressed in The Hollywood Reporter that Hlynur Pálmason is risking the loss of his audience by taking the disturbing story unexpectedly far, dramatically and stylistically. He won a "creative wrestling match with a potentially uncompromising narrative". On the Swiss platform Cineman , Irene Genhart wrote that, as in his debut Winter Brothers , the director turned out to be “a master of narrative reduction, which puts the most important things between the words and otherwise trusts the images to linger”.
Hvítur, Hvítur Dagur was Iceland's 2020 official entry for an Oscar nomination for Best International Film , but was not shortlisted.
