Weitmars is a district of Lorch in the Ostalbkreis , Baden-Württemberg . Until 1971 it belonged to the then independent village Waldhausen .
location
Weitmars is located west of Lorch and northeast of Waldhausen , north of the Rems , in the Remstal . Weitmars is built on the steep slopes of the Hohberg, the roads lead up in serpentines.
history
Weitmars was first mentioned in 1293 under the name Wigmar. The name goes back to the founder. In documents from the 15th and 16th centuries, the spelling changed to Wittmars / Weyttmars / Weitmars. Since the 13th century there has been an upper village around the current confluence of Hohbergstrasse / Steingasse, a lower village between today's Grabenstrasse, Steingasse and Rechbergstrasse, and a mill on the Walkersbach . Ober- and Unterdorf grew together in the 1930s.
Weitmars was administered by Plüderhausen until 1820 , then by Waldhausen. Other offices held until 1848 feudal dependencies among others the monastery Adelberg and Kloster Lorch . There was a communal school from 1832; In 1936 the new school building on Schulberg was inaugurated. The incorporation of Waldhausen into the city of Lorch in 1971 means that Weitmars is also a part of Lorch. In the relevant vote, not only the Waldhaus citizens were involved, but also the Weitmarser. It was a matter of choosing between Plüderhausen (thus Rems-Murr-Kreis) or Lorch (thus Ostalbkreis). Before this vote, Waldhausen (and thus also Weitmars) belonged to the Schwäbisch Gmünd district .
Infrastructure
Weitmars does not have its own school. Therefore, most of the Weitmarser students attend one of the schools in Lorch . However, Weitmars has a small sports hall, the Hohberghalle. There is also a Protestant kindergarten, but no Catholic or municipal kindergarten, which is only available in Lorch and Waldhausen or Kirneck.
