Weki Meki ( Korean 위키 미키 ; also stylized WEME ) is a South Korean girl group founded by Fantagio in 2017. The group officially debuted on August 8, 2017 with the mini album WEME and the single I Don't Like Your Girlfriend . Weki Meki's official fan club name is "Ki-Ling".

history

Emergence

Some of Weki Meki's members had already been active at Fantagio since 2015 in a training program called i-Teen Girls .

2016 took Yoojung, Doyeon, Elly and other Fantagio trainees at the Mnet - talent show "Produce 101" part. Sei was also on the show as Lee Seo-jeong, although she was still under contract with LOUDers Entertainment at the time. Yoojung and Doyeon made it into the top eleven in the final and became part of the temporary girl group IOI . After the dissolution of IOI, the two returned to the agency and were introduced on March 22, 2017 as the first two members of Fantagio's new girl group. How big the group would be and when it would debut had not yet been decided. In early June, Yoojung and Doyeon introduced the remaining six members of their group during live broadcasts on Naver V Live. On July 6th, Fantagio announced the name of the new group in a press release: Weki Meki .

2017 – today: Debut with WEME and Lucky

On August 8, 2017, Weki Meki officially debuted with the mini-album WEME and the single I Don't Like Your Girlfriend . The 1,500 tickets for the group's debut show sold out within a minute. WEME had sold more than 47,000 copies by November, making it the best-selling album of all girl groups that debuted in South Korea in 2017.

On February 21, 2018, the second mini album Lucky was released together with the single La La La.

At the beginning of May it was announced that Yoojung and Doyeon are working together with Seola and Luda from Cosmic Girls on a joint project called WJMK ( 우주 미키 ). The group released the single Strong ( 짜릿 하게 ) on June 1.

On August 8th, the first anniversary of their debut, the official fan club name "Ki-Ling" and the group's official colors were presented.

Weki Meki released their first single album Kiss, Kicks, along with the single Crush on October 11th .
