Wela Peewa

Wela Peewa Peewa , actually Wela Peewa Penka ( Bulgarian Вела Пеева Пеева , born March 16, 1922 in Kameniza ; † May 3, 1944 ) was a Bulgarian partisan .

Life

Peewa belonged to the Bulgarian Workers' Youth Association RMS and the Bulgarian Communist Party . From 1941 she studied at the University of Sofia , but then fought as a partisan from 1943 during the Second World War . It acted as a liaison between the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the district committees of the party and the youth association RMS in Pazardzhik . After being wounded, she hid in the mountains for 37 days. However, she was encircled by the police, with whom she fought for over five hours and then ultimately shot herself.

The city of Velingrad , to which her birthplace belongs today, was named after her. The Wela Peewa museum house in Velingrad is one of the series of 100 national tourist objects of Bulgaria .
