100 national tourist objects
100 National Tourist Objects is a tourist organization in Bulgaria that was initiated in 1966.
The full name of the initiative is Get to know Bulgaria - 100 National Tourist Objects ( Bulgarian Опознай България - 100 национални туристически обекта ).
Intention and organization
The aim of this organization, whose target group is Bulgarians, is to encourage tourists to visit and get to know the most famous tourist sites in Bulgaria.
Among the 100 selected objects are cultural, historical, geographical, archaeological and architectural monuments of global, national and regional importance. The most important churches and monasteries, historical places, archaeological sites ("architecture reserves", "historical-archaeological reserves"), natural phenomena and high mountain peaks give a comprehensive picture of the rich cultural and historical heritage in Bulgaria as well as the nature of the country.
Stamp and raffles
The visit to these objects is confirmed by stamping in a stamp book. The stamps are located nearby or in the visited object. These stamp books can be obtained from the Bulgarian Tourism Association , which is also a co-initiator of the “100 National Tourist Objects” initiative. The stamp books can also be bought in the 100 objects or from the local branches of the Bulgarian Tourist Board.
For visiting 25, 50 or 100 national objects, you will receive a bronze, silver or gold badge from the National Organizing Committee of the Bulgarian Tourism Association.
Every year in August, the organizing committee holds a raffle among the new badges who can win trips abroad or in Bulgaria or tourist equipment such as bicycles, tents, sleeping bags or small prizes.
After the change in Bulgaria (November 10, 1989) some objects related to the communist history of Bulgaria were replaced by new ones. The current version and numbering of the list (as of August 2008) has been valid since 2003.
