Wellington Nogueira Lopes de Avellar , better known as Wellington Lope , (born June 1, 1979 in Volta Redonda ) is a former Brazilian soccer player.

Career

The 1.86-meter-tall striker began his career in 1999 with Volta Redonda FC , he was recommended by his coach Flávio Teixeira . In 2000 he was compared to the Brazilian soccer player Rivaldo due to his sophisticated technique . His career was marked by irregular performances. In 2000 he was tested positive in doping controls. As a result, he was banned for four months. In March 2001 he came back, took part in the State Championship of São Paulo and reached his climax that year. He played nine league games and scored eight goals, which previously only Tupãzinho succeeded in 1968, he was top scorer, a performance that no player at the club could achieve. Another highlight was the aforementioned São Paulo championships. He scored three goals, the club couldn't win, but later it was a tie (3: 3). Later the contract with the club was terminated due to irregular performances and his doping problems. He then signed several contracts, in most cases he had to leave the field again after a short time.
