Wellton is located off Interstate 8 , and is 29 miles east of Yuma .
history
Wellton was founded in 1878 and became independent in 1970. In earlier times Wellton was still spelled as Well Town, the name of the town was given by the Southern Pacific Railroad . The village was also founded by the railway, but there was a stagecoach station in the area in earlier times. The station is closed.
