Welser Höhenweg
The Welser Höhenweg is the east-west crossing of the Dead Mountains (with the exception of the Warscheneck group). The alpine path stretches from Hinterstoder to Bad Ischl in five daily stages . A distance of 53.9 km and 3200 meters of altitude is covered. The overnight stays are at the Prielschutzhaus , the Pühringerhütte , the Albert-Appel-Haus and the Ischler Hütte . An alternative ascent variant is the start in the Almtal at Gasthof Jagersimmerl and the first overnight stay at the Welserhütte , from which you meet the main path on the second day at the Fleischbanksattel.
history
In 2019, parts of the existing network of trails on the Totes Gebirges plateau were merged to form the large east-west overall crossing of this mountain range. This was done by the Wels Alpine Club Section, which administers a large part of this area. The Ausseer Weg, which enables the north-south crossing of the Dead Mountains, forms part of the route.
Stages
- Hinterstoder (591 m) - Prielschutzhaus (1420 m)
After arriving from the train station by bus, it takes 2 - 3 hours to get to the first accommodation, depending on the walking speed.
- Prielschutzhaus (1420 m) - Pühringerhütte (1638 m)
One of the two longest stages takes about 6 hours to walk over the highest part of the mountain plateau past the Priel to the Pühringerhütte . This section of the route requires very good endurance, surefootedness, good weather and good orientation skills.
- Pühringerhütte (1638 m) - Albert Appel House (1663 m)
This day's stage leads through the green part of the Dead Mountains in about 5 hours to the Albert-Appel-Haus .
- Albert Appel House (1663 m) - Ischler Hut (1368 m)
The longest stage. It leads past the Wildensee and Rinnerkogel over the summit of the Schönberg (2093 m) to the Ischler Hütte , the last accommodation.
- Ischler Hut (1368 m) - Bad Ischl (468 m)
Descent to the Rettenbachalm and march to Bad Ischl (approx. 3–4 h)
