Built in 1884 as a Karl-Krahl shelter , it now offers accommodation for around 180 people (including 52 beds). history
When the ascent of the Großer Priel became increasingly popular in the 19th century, a natural rock cave below the Brotfallscharte sometimes served as a shelter. In 1875, the Viennese heraldist Karl Krahl had the cave fitted with cladding, a door, benches and mattresses and designed as the first mountaineering accommodation. In 1884, the Windischgarsten section of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) built a small shelter on the Oberen Polsteralm, which was named Karl-Krahl-Schutzhaus in honor of the developer of the Prielgruppe and opened on August 18, 1884. In 1904 the Linz section of the ÖTK took over the shelter and built today's Prielschutzhaus from 1905 to 1906.
Approach
The approach leads from Hinterstoder over the scenic Schiederweiher and the so-called Polsterlucke to the end of the valley and then past the Klinserfall through high forest to the hut, which is at the tree line. The walking time is about 3 hours.
