Weltempfänger was a German band that was active in the mid-1990s. The ten-member "music ensemble" (its own name) released its only album "Hammerschmidt ist raus" in 1995.
history
The group was founded in August 1992 at the instigation of Nico (then Norbert) Walser, who had been active as a musician for a while. Influenced by the first German-language album by the band Element of Crime, "Damals hinterm Mond", which was released in 1991, the initially planned electronic style changed to a colorful mishmash of wave, pop, chanson and international folklore, which the band called "bizarre pop" . Other influences were bands like Tocotronic , Cpt. Kirk &. , Blumfeld , Einstürzende Neubauten , Les Négresses Vertes or Mano Negra . In 1994 the band took second place in the very first edition of the local Heroes band contest on the radio station FFN . Several TV appearances, in which the unusual instrument shopping trolley was always prominently presented, attracted nationwide attention. In 1995 the band supported the "The Hearing and the Sense of Balance" tour by Fury in the Slaughterhouse : They played with acoustic instruments in the middle of the audience during the break. Due to internal differences, the band broke up shortly afterwards. A member of Gruppe 17 Hippies mentioned in a radio interview that a concert by Weltempfänger had inspired the founding of their own large ensemble.
After the dissolution
After the original line-up split, two successor bands formed: Weltempfänger - The Next Generation and Gantenbein . Weltempfänger - The Next Generation with main songwriter Nico Walser opened the first Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel in 1997 and, in the same year, celebrated the five-year band anniversary of the "Weltempfänger" project as one of the last actions before the final dissolution.
