The 14th Universal Postal Congress took place in 1957 in Ottawa, Canada .

At the suggestion of the United States, Congress passed a recommendation that one week in October be celebrated as “Week of the Written Letter”. At the following congress, the beginning was set on Sunday, with which the week begins, in which October 9th (the anniversary of the signing of the “General Postal Union Agreement”) lies.
