Wendy Waller (* in Pittsburgh ) is an American opera and lieder singer with a coloratura soprano / soprano voice .

Life

Wendy Waller is the daughter of the opera singer Juanita Waller (soprano) and Alfred M. Waller. She received her first singing lessons from her mother. After studying law, she studied opera and song singing a. a. with Grace Bumbry and Licia Albanese . She made her professional debut as a studio artist at the Sarasota Opera in Florida.

The career of the now internationally known Afro-American soprano began in 2000 as a member of the German National Theater Weimar , where she made her debut as Queen of the Night. This role became one of her star roles in the following years. She sang the Queen of the Night at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and in 2006 at the Opera Festival in Heidenheim an der Brenz . In Weimar she excelled as Musetta, as Viola / Cesario in Manfred Trojahn's Was ihr wollt , as Konstanze ( The Abduction from the Seraglio ) and as Countess ( Figaro's wedding ). Waller has been a freelance opera and lied singer since 2004. She has made guest appearances at the opera stages in Lyon, Geneva, Estonia and Hungary. In 2006 she appeared as Hanna Glawari ( The Merry Widow ) at the Görlitz Theater .

In addition to her stage work, the soprano, whose range of vocal possibilities ranges from bel canto to dramatic coloratura to youthful-dramatic soprano, is a much-booked song singer. After her concert debut in Stockholm, acclaimed appearances followed, for example at the “Master Series” in London and at the “Newport Music Festival” Rhode Island (USA), where she performed Mozart's concert arias in numerous concerts, including all the songs and duets by Dvořák , the Four Last Songs by Strauss, the Petrarca Sonnets by Liszt and cantatas by Bach, Scarlatti and Donizetti. Her broad repertoire of songs ranges from the works of the baroque master Bach to modern composers such as Poulenc.

The internationally known conductors with whom she has worked include Hartmut Haenchen , George Alexander Albrecht , William Spaulding and Arvo Volmer .
