In the 6 hectare park there is a 1.8 kilometer long nature trail and an information house. The park is Bavaria's oldest nature reserve that is still actively used for environmental education . It is located in the middle of the FFH area "Eaves slopes of the Hersbrucker Alb ".

The site was bought by Carl Wenglein in 1930 in order to build a private nature refuge here. The park soon developed into a popular national excursion destination. In 1966 the Bund Naturschutz in Bayern acquired the park and has been looking after it since 1976 through the local group Hersbrucker Land.

The Wengleinpark nature conservation center was opened in 1987. Since 1994 it has been an official environmental station of the Federal Nature Conservation in Bavaria with financial support from the Middle Franconia district and the Free State of Bavaria . The paths, information buildings and other facilities have been under monument protection since 2003 . The site has been designated as a historical building by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments (D-5-74-147-104).

In 2008 the facility was redesigned and expanded into the Hutanger Adventure Area Weingleinpark. The area was enlarged to 12 hectares. A two-kilometer educational trail with numerous information boards runs through the park.
